Hi everyone!
I was recently in the process of upgrading my computer when it occurred to me that I don't know much about the techicalities of DDR Ram.

During my last upgrade my Dual CMX512-3200C2PRO sticks decided to crash my computer in games like FEAR and Oblivion and Call of Duty 2. It seemed to only happen after i put a new GeIL PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM in. Now even when i run the old memory by themselves, its still crashes, I feel as though i've done something wrong to cause this.

note: I didn't change any settings when i put the new RAM in. Actually, i dont know what settings to change... I didnt change any settings when i put the original 2X512Mb in, but its been working fine up until now.

note: It works when the new RAM is run by itself.

I dont know what it means when ram is Un-buffered, or non-ECC, or Un-registered or anything like that. How do Dual channel optimized modules work? does my Gigabyte GA-K8U Motherboard (el cheapo) have anything to do with it? And i dont know if having them with another module that doesnt have the negative prefixes will damage anything.

So basically i would like to know,
a) Whether i broke my computer by putting in incompatible memory.
b) What the terminology means so i dont do it again.

These are the specs on the new RAM i put in that seemed to screw things up.

GeIL PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM

- 184pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered, Industry Standard DDR memory modules.
- GeIL 5ns 32x8 Density DDR Chip.
- 6 Layers Low Noises Shielded PCB.
- Aluminum Heat Spreader.
- Lifetime Warranty .
- CAS 2.5- 6 - 3 - 3 in 256MB and 512MB
- CAS 2.5- 8 - 4 - 4 in 256MB and 512MB
- CAS 3 - 8 - 4 - 4 in 1GB
- 2.55 - 2.65V

And these are the specs for my Old Corsair RAM.

XMS PRO SERIES MODULES

TWINX1024-3200C2PRO
XMS3200
1024MB
2-3-3-6
2x184 DIMM
Black XMS ProSeries

And these are the basic Specs for my computer.

AMD Althon XP 64bit 3000+ (TT Golden Orb Fan)
2 Gb Ram (currently running 1 gb.)
ATI X800XT
Gigabyte GA-K8U Motherboard
Windows XP corp ed. SP2 (windows updates enabled)
150Gb SATA HDD
200Gb IDE HDD

I'd like to be able to run both sets of RAM.
Thank you for your time.

that could be your problem right there... i dont know if two different ram sticks will work together or not.. i duobt it thought because of different timings so.. yeah..
