L2 Cache

as topic.....what is a L2 Cache and what does it mean when i have a 2 x 1 MB L2 Cache???

L2 cache is high speed memory located on the processor. 2x1mb L2 cache means its a dual core therefore it has 2 banks of L2 cache, one for each core

and on that note... just FYI..

L=Level

The higher the level, the slower the cache is.

For example, L1 is faster than L2, L2 is faster than L3.

and L3 is found only on the old Extreme Edition P4's and Xeon's i think

L3 is kinda pointless.Doesnt have much of a gain of perforamnce.
L3 cache is now the name for the extra cache built into motherboards between the processor and the main memory.I guess its time for a new avatar.HMMMM....

Umm yes like someone said earlier its with the xenons.

the first pentium 4 EE used L3 cache but i don't think they have since then and the Xeon processors used it at some point, perhaps still do.
