Hey all, just curious on anyone elses thoughts. My 21" CRT seems to be dying on me, and I found a nice 21" Dell/Trinitron for about $215 US I can replace it with. I haven't done any research on LCD's at all, but I'm sure they have improved alot since I got my 21" CRT a couple years ago.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is for gaming purposes, should I stick with a CRT? And if LCD's are as good, is it possible to find something at or below $300 US that's reasonable?

On another note, I hate to trade down on screen size. I think my viewable screensize is 19.8" now. So something close to that would work.

Any thoughts or advice on LCD's, even links is greatly appreciated. I purchase alot from NewEgg, so if you know any links from their website even better :) I sure wouldn't mind getting rid of this 100lb beast on my desk!!!

Thanks!

viewable area with LCDs is the advertised screen size. so a 19" monitor will have 19" viewable area.

you're right, LCDs have improved significantly recently. the main concern with LCDs when it comes to gaming is ghosting. You can get a monitor that has low enough response time that ghosting is no longer apparent. the effect differs from monitor to monitor, buy my 8ms LCD doesn't show any evidence of ghosting. for $300 you should be able to get a good 19" monitor. another risk with LCDs is dead pixels.. not much you can do about that. i don't know too much about which monitors are good, so i'll let someone else recommend one. i switched to LCD and absolutely no regrets. i enjoy the extra desk space :)

i have the 12 ms version of that monitor and it is freaking NICE... no dead pixels but for some reason mine was 240.. and still is.. lol

I can highly reccomend dell's monitors, I use the 19" Flat Panel, (8ms), and it is brilliant. The best monitor I've ever used, perfect blacks, no ghosting, it changed the way I play HL2 completely.

Awesome monitors at great value, and they also have unbeliveable build quality, they are incredibly solid.

Highly reccomend them.

I have the Dell 21" Trinitron......Yes it's a 100 Pound Beast

It also ROCKS and can run up to 1600 X 1200....By far the best gaming monitor i have ever owned, but i have never used an LCD
mainly because i always heard they dont do very well out of the native resolution. I change the resolution on my CRT all the time, and it NEVER misses a beat.

I Love My 21" Dell Trinitron :D

I have always used CRTs but I decided to try my luck with an LCD and brought one a couple weeks ago. I love it, and will never go back to CRT, and with 8ms response, no ghosting!
