So I have an okay Compaq Presario SR1316nx. It has the K8S-LA motherboard and I wanted to do a few upgrades regarding the video.

As of right now I was looking at the 6800GS AGP video card, but I think I would need a new Psu, I'm just uncertain with the kind I should get... I also want to get another stick of 512Mb of Ram to increase performance.

So my question is: For around $300, for a video card, ram, and assuming I also need a new PSU that also. What would be the most bang for my buck?

What I was looking at:

How much of a difference would there be from using 2x 512mb sticks and 1 gb and 1 512mb stick, assuming that they would run well together?

1 gig is the sweet spot plus if you have a matched set If you ever decide to upgrade to a board that will support dual channel then you are all set.

Do not get that power supply, it is horrible. You really do not want to spend that little on a PSU, as it is an important part of the computer. get at least this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817171007
But I would suggest:

That video card is good. Remember that if you are running a 1 gig stick and a 512 stick, you cannot run in dual channel, which if the mobo supports, allows the ram to basically run 2 times as fast.

do you think that psu would handle 2 7900gt's... cuz i'm looking for a good psu that'll handle sli just dandy, while spending the least..... sorry to steal a thread.. i know my sig says 550watt antec truepower.. but many things have held me back from buying it...

Uhm. I don't think the motherboard has dual channel, but how would i be able to check. I have everest Ultimate Edition, and I looked around on google and didn't really find anything.

Im guessing you are talking about the Aspire one. I guess it would be fine for 2 7900 GT's, its definetly not too much. *edit* But I would still go with the TP 2, as it is much better AND it has a big rebate on it at newegg, so its only 10 bucks more that the aspire one.

thats pretty cool, u have a nice rig though. back on topic, I guess that mobo doesnt have dual channel support, so it would be better the have 1.5 gb of memory instead of 2 512 sticks. but if you upgrade to those parts, your machine will last a while.
