From tgdaily.com:
Faced with increasing competitive pressure from AMD, Intel apparently has accelerated its launch schedule of its new Core microarchitecture. While Woodcrest, which will carry the Xeon 5100-series designation, was always scheduled for a Q3 introduction, chief executive Paul Otellini on Wednesday confirmed that the company will also be announcing the desktop processor "Conroe" (Core Duo E4000 and E6000 series) as well as the mobile CPU "Merom" (Core Duo T5000 and T7000 series) in the third quarter. All three variants will be shipping "in volume."

Looks like things could get fun quick...

Cannot wait, I hope they will not have lots of issues with it when it comes out.

About how much would a Conroe CPU, a stable motherboard and a decent amount of ram cost?

Conroe CPU prices:

E6700 : 2.67 GHz – FSB1066 – 4 MB cache – $529
E6600 : 2.40 GHz – FSB1066 – 4 MB cache – $315
E6400 : 2.13 GHz – FSB1066 – 2 MB cache – $240
E6300 : 1.86 GHz – FSB1066 – 2 MB cache - $210

it looks that conroe is too expensive, i don't think that i will be able to get anything other than E6300 if the prices don't dropdown, but anyway do u think that E6300 will be much better than my p4 3.2ghz

???

If these chips can actually perform anywhere near the benchmarks Intel put out, then they will be a steal.

In case you haven't noticed, the FX-60 is still in the four-digit range.

As for me, I plan to sit back and watch it all play out before I jump into anything.

That'd be my choice! 315 for those specs sounds awesome. Too bad it'll be a good while before my next upgrade.

Yea the $300 one looks like the best **** deal I've ever seen. That thing at stock probaly performs around the same as that OCed FX-60. And you know how well Intel cpu's OC. Imagine one of those things Overclocked to like 3.4 ghz. I'm in heaven.
