i have windows xp 64 bit version......the OS came with my PC so it is a legitimate copy....whenever i get this yellow icon on my taskbar saying to dowload windows updates it dowloads it but then when i click install it tells me that the updates were not successfully installed.....this has been going on for months...??..HELP PLEASE...what should i do???

ummm... have you actually tried going to the Windows update site and downloading the patches? If you do, it will at least give you an eror code as to why they fail.
I have to turn my firewall off in order to download my patches, but I don't know if that could be your problem or not.
