Programs Freezing When Browsing (hungapp)

I am currently at school and my teacher's PC is having strange freezing problems when using the "Open" function or any other option that uses a drop-down list to browse. Whenever you use Open in a program and click the drop down list to browse, the program will freeze and not allow you to browse. If you terminate the program and view the details, the szModName is always "hungapp". So far this has happened with every program tested, the computer has been restarted multiple times, and the computer and server has been throughly virus scanned.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well how much RAM do you have on the machine? How many apps are open? It all depends on what app you are running and everything else going on. Try to Start>Run>msconfig>Startup Tab with it. Make sure only what needs to be running is. After that restart and see if it still hangs. If so sounds like there is a application running that is eating up alot of CPU cycles and/or RAM that is causeing the system to "Hang".
