AMD's reverse Hyper-Threading

The info is about a potential new AMD processor. Allegedly, the green camp is developing a sort of "Anti-Hyperthreading," which would allow two (or multiple) physical cores to emulate one physical core.

This could be incredibly interesting. Early performance numbers suggest that AMD's new AM2 platform won't be able to compete with Conroe on raw native performance. However, if AMD can perfect the ability to make multiple cores appear as one, then it could take a massive performance lead in applications that are single-threaded - like the vast majority of games right now.

That would be great to play GTR/GTL with a full grid and get great FPS. Just need a super powerful card to draw all the poly's on the cars.

Even if the AM2 will be behind the Conroe, AMD will still keep the fire raging in the ever-on-going battle with Intel to produce more powerful CPU's...

Im not a fanboy of AMD. I like whichever company has the best product. However I was and still am really impressed with how AMD has begun to fight its way up to be a true competitor with Intel.

Its rivalries like ATI vs Nvidia and Intel vs AMD, that are always providing the consumer market with better and cheaper products; and for this I am thankful.

i read somewhere the third party chip maker VIA might get into desktop chips soon. i think they were in it briefly before but left soon after. not sure where i read it but i'll look. three companies would be quite the competition

VIA has always been in the proc business, they just do it in such low volumes (like the former Cyrix) that they've never posed much of a threat to AMD and Intel.

Their chipset business is what really keeps them going.
