Found my 2 year old dumping his brother fomula on my dell laptop lcd. The milk is now behind the glass and the screen looks stained. $500 for a replacement screen. 17".

Can the LCD be pulled apart and cleaned? I pulled the bezel off and cleaned what I could, but didn't want to run the risk of destroying the lcd yet.

Hello,

What Dell laptop do you have? You might be able to find a downloadable service manual for your laptop, which gives step by step instructions and illustrations on how to correctly dismantle and construct your laptop. Many available to download from the net, mainly from the manufacturers website.

Should be easy to dismantle...but only if your careful. If you can find one, a service manual will help you alot, especially for when you forget which screw goes where .

Thanks found it on Dell's site, but can the LCD portion be taken apart, cleaned and put back together?

It should be, Itd probably be better sent off to a laptop specialist, cant see it being more than 50 quid.

Sounds like its between the protective cover and the grid. So, nope... its not user friendly. I would replace it because if its behind the protective cover/glass, its already covering the mesh grid that activates each pixel and it probably has damaged it already. If it isn't behind the protective screen, then you may still have a chance but it sounds like, from your description, its the worse of the two. Just remember how a TFT LCD works, and you'll realize that taking one apart isn't really an option.
