Floppy drive keeps asking to reformat

I have several Compaq's that get a message to reformat a floppy disk after they are inserted. The disk has been formated and has data, but it still asks to reformat. Running XP. Is this a driver problem, or??

like you pop it in as a startup disk, with winxp there would be 4 floppies i think... and you put it in and it doesn't run the disk, it just asks to format it? or do you mean in the actually OS it happens, like my computer -> a: -> "Do you want to format" when you click the a drive?... or.. what do you mean? lol
