Upgrading RAM

I have two 256 sticks of RAM in my PC at the moment and I am looking to upgrade them to either a single 1gb or two 512 sticks.

Which would be better performancewise? Does it matter about the brand?

I need a DDR2 RAM PC2 4200 and i have found this one at ebuyer:

There is also the option to get it 'Open Box' is it worth the risk?

no get it brand new and you would be better to get a single 1 gig stick. the ram you picked out should be ok.

It's better to get 2 x 512mb if your mobo supports dual channel ram. I would get the brand names too, because they're more reliable. Like OCZ or G.Skill
