Can someone help with these questions.

1) The difference between a low-level format and a high-level format of a hard disk?

2) A hard disk and a floppy disk are formatted using windows explorer, what type of formatting process is taking place in each?

3) Explain what you would need to do if your hard disk drive was not automaticaly recognised by the BIOS setup program?

4) If you have a second IDE hard disk drive for a computer with 2 IDE channels. What are the different ways to connect the 2nd drive, and how should it be configured?

Wow.. these sound like questions on a basic computer hardware class....

Anyway,

1) The difference between a low-level format and a high-level format of a hard disk?

Low Level format is the done by the manufacturer. It is what encodes the hard drive with the data capacity, head count, etc. A HIGH level format is used when preparing the hard drive for data. Normally you can only do a high level format. (Ex. if you use "format" in a DOS promt, it will execute a high level format)


2) A hard disk and a floppy disk are formatted using windows explorer, what type of formatting process is taking place in each?

When formatting a hard disk, you can user either FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS, you decide what kind of format will be used when formatting a hard drive. A floppy disk can ONLY be formatted using FAT (File Allocation Table). Also, if you want to format a hard drive using the NTFS format, you usually have to have a Windows NT/2k/XP CD or setup disks to accomplish this task.

3) Explain what you would need to do if your hard disk drive was not automaticaly recognised by the BIOS setup program?

If your BIOS was not setup to autodetect, you would have to manualle enter the cylinder, head and sector information for the specific hard drive.


4) If you have a second IDE hard disk drive for a computer with 2 IDE channels. What are the different ways to connect the 2nd drive, and how should it be configured?

When you have multiple devices on a IDE channel you have to designate a master and a slave. If you have two hard drives, you would set the jumper on your primary hard drive to be the master, and the secondary hard drive would be configured as a slave. The same applies if you have a HDD as a primary and a CD-ROM as secondary, you would want the HDD to be master and the CD-ROM to be slave.
