I am pretty new to hard drive formatting/re-formatting. I have a few used hard drives that I would like to install in external USB enclosures. I do not need any of the data which was assocciated with the HDD's. What is the procedure for erasing the HD so they will work as an external? These are all IDE drives. Does the jumper configuration matter?

Thanks for any input,

Dale

I have to do the same thing for my school. Once you hook it up to the enclosure . Plug it into your computer, it should then show up in my computer. Right click on that hard drive and scroll down to format or reformat(says something like that). click on the file system you want and you should be good.

Thanks for the quick reply. I may just purchase an IDE to USB adapter instead of enclosures. Should do the same.
