hey whats up, my laptop recently stopped turning on and i am sending it back to gateway but i need the contents of the hard drive first. First of all i dont want to pay someone to do this. My plan is to remove the hard drive from my roommates laptop, put mine in and connect his computer to an external hard disk and transfer everything onto that and then put the original hard drive back into my roommates computer. My question is, will there be any problems with his computer after i do this, or will everyhhing be the same as it was before the swap? Thanks in advance.

so that adapter is essentially that same thing as a typical hard drive enclosure and will allow me to plug in the 2.5" hard disk as an external and transfer the data from it?

apokalipse:

or how can i transfer the files from it without running windows? also if i do this will windows load properly after i put the original hard drive back in?

he doesn't have to run Windows from it, he can still get his files off it

i wouldnt say enclosure as its only an adapter , but yeah basicly it will make it like an external , anyway ntfs file system have permissions so youll need to set em properly to access the data have a look at this thread http://www.techist.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98492
