i just had a quick look on ebay...and chose some specs very similar to those that john picked and came up with this...(these are from "powersellers" on ebay with good reputations, so i would think they are legitimate)

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939 CPU & Heatsink Fan - $377
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard - nForce4 SLI SOC 939!! - $254
NEW ASUS Geforce 6200 256M TV-OUT DVI PCI EXPRESS 1Y Wt -$85
Corsair Value Select 1GB (2x512MB) PC-3200/400Mhz - $146
Brand New Seagate 300GB 16MB IDE Hard Disk Drive 5Y WTY - $195
Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (Free Postage) - $40
BENQ FP71G+S 17 LCD MONITOR (8 m/s) - $360

this equals like $147 (this includes postage charges)
Note: This isnt my actual build, im just asking how does this do in comparison with what has already been mentioned, and would this build actually work (besides the case which i havent mentioned yet coz i didnt look for one)

that proc price sounds allitle high
i only paid $250 for my 3500+ from microcenter

i wouldnt know, it was still cheaper then that i saw off of the two sites that were posted previously...and im in Australia so that might be the difference

you dont need to spend the extra hundred and 50 bucks on a SLI motherboard if your not going to SLI.. and since you dont game, you defintly wont be needing 2 vid cards...

ok...why dont i need a SLI motherboard...what is the difference? sry for asking what may just seem as dumb questions

you only need an sli board if your gooing to buy two graphics cards and run them in sli

ok, so yay that saves me some more money, having two graphics cards doesnt improve it too much does it? i may be wrong just by reading some posts in here there doesnt seem to be too much about it

Here's a build I got off of www.gamedude.com.au.
I just copied all the titles, links, and prices from there.
You might like to try and find a different case if you don't like that one, just make sure it's ATX.
Also, if you'd like to increase your budget, you could get a better graphics card, and you'd be able to play some more up-to-date games.
