So this will be my second upgrade ewver my first being my current system which is . 9800 pro 128 and a p4 2.8 478. Naturally the systems outdated and im looking to upgrade again.

I just got a few Qs

Should I get a new power supply?? My current one is 320w.

Will my old harddrive work with my new mobo??

Will I notice alot gaming wise upgrading my mobo and getting a amd 64 3800 X2 proc even though ill still be using my 9800 pro for awhile?

1. yes u should get a new psu, preferably antec truepower II 450watt

2. yes it will work on ur new mobo, as long as the Hard drive is SATA and the mobo supports SATA, or the hard drive is IDE and the mobo supports IDE, but dont get IDE, its crap, get SATA

3.You will notice a huge difference.

Will I have to reformat my old harddrive? Because I have alot of things on there I dont wanna lose.

How can I tell if its sata. I think my mobo came with a sata thing but I never hooked it up

well, you open this program called CPU-Z, you can find it on this site or just google it, and it tells you all your hardware, if it says IDE, then buy a SATA hard drive and install your OS then transfer all the files from IDE hd to the SATA Hd, trust me you dont want IDE.

Where does it tell you on cpuz cause I cant find it. I know my board know supports sata though

its a gigabyte 8IPE1000P

Is dual core overkill right now or will it still perform better for gaming than a single core

games currently use single core, but i think its about to change in a few months, definitely get dual core.

As for another way of finding your hard drive, get a program called Everest. or do this.
Start>control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>then ur hard drive is there, it might tell you wat it is.

Yeah its ide.

How long will it take about to transfer all my files and is thir an easy way to go about it?

get a mobo that supports both sata or ide. or u can use a program called norton ghost, but i dunno a lot about it, make a new thread asking for help on how to use it.
