Artic Clean and AS5

I'm so confused at that way to apply AS5.

Some say to put a blob in the middle and then just bolt the heatsink down. Then some say to spread it out with a business card or something until the whole CPU is covered with the stuff, then bolt the heatsink down.

So confusing.

Small blob in the middle then spred it a bit so that the paste covers about 2/3s to 3/4s. just use a sandwich bag or something to spred it

you don't really have to spread it on the cpu if you have a HSF that makes good contact it will spread anyway. however you should put AS5 on the HSF surface, spread it out with a plastic bag and remove the excess until you are basically left with what looks like a clean surface except slightly darker. i just use methylated spirits to clean thermal compound
