Comparing 7900 Vs 7800 video cards

I am looking over the specifications of the 7900GTX, 7900GT, and 7800GTX and this is what I am finding. Please comment if I am wrong or missing something in the specifications.

In comparing the 7900GT vs the 7800GTX they are very similar in every aspect. The only difference are the higher clock speeds (not in all models), My 7800GTX is faster than quite a few of the 7900GT's. This said it would seem that the 7900 is an overclocked version of the 7800GTX (In some instances). Pipelines are the same at 24, Ramdac is the same at 400MHz, OpenGL is the same at 2.0. Also if the 7900GT is better than the 7800GTX's why are the 7800GTX's still 150 - 200 dollars more?

In comparing the 7900GTX with the 7800GTX 512MB it seems the same as above, the 7900GTX is an overclocked version of the 7800GTX 512MB. Since the 7900GTX's became available it seems that the 7800GTX 512MB is no longer available to purchase. I have not seen it on newegg or anywhere else.

What do you think?

the reason the 7800's are more exspensive is becuase they are more exspensive to manufacture. Where as a 7900 Dosent cost as much becuase its smaller, and easier to produce.

The 7800 GTX 512MB was more of a collectors card with a serious price tag becuase like before, it was very exspenive to manufacture.

Personally if you have any 7 Series card there absolutley no need to upgrade...

(Not counting the 7600 and 7300, those cards suck)

yes, that is all true, especially about hte 7600 and 7300 part. The 7900GT/GTX seem like a slightly better model, but i think the main purpose was to make it less expensive, so more people would buy it. And now they can rock the 7800s, cause you can get em Superclocked as well, but its still very close. From benchmarks i've seen, the SLi version of the 7900s is much more effective than the 7800s. seems to be higher increase in performance.

hold up 7600 gt's are awsome cards for their price point dont say anything until you know something about it

exactly 7600gt's are excellent cards. see you have a pretyt high end system which is why you think the cards suck. but they are actually very good for the money
