aim.exe,

The procedure entry point InternetGetSecurityByURLW could not be located in the dunamic link library WININET.dll

I'm getting that error, not only on aim its on any like internet related program. Its driving me insane it comes up like 20 times until it goes away then the next internet thing I go on it comes back up.

I just bought this dell brand new and removed some of the preinstalled nonsense. I don't know what this is I have never seen it. What can I do fast help would be awesome. Thanks..

its defenitely a virus, i can tell by the name of it.

Do some antivirus checks, and try the online free scanners

i found your problem ... ----> New Dell <----

haha...besides that yea i would try downloading CCleaner, Windows Defender, AVG FreeEdition

This is about the only thread I can find about it, but its all in Italian..hahah..

All I see is sad faces so I dont know if they fixed it :) However if you search for that DLL that is giving you trouble it turns up many results...but there are mixed feelings..some say its virus/spyware and some say it is a legit system process...hmmmm...have you tried restoring to before this problem happened?

whats a hijack this log? and btw, it stopped coming up, there was some URLDefender that DELL had factory installed in add/remove and I removed it, and never rebooted. So that is probably why I am getting the error. But it is no longer coming up and everything is running wonderful. So I guess thanks =]

Did you ever stop to google this. aim.exe is alos for the AOL IM service. So it isnt necessarily a Virus.

http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/aim.exe.html

All of those sites just list it as AOL Instant Messenger. There is nothing wrong with a new Dell as long as you format and install XP fresh right away to get rid of all the junk that they install.

No no no, Maka, if you thouroughly read my post, you would understand that it was on any internet related task. Being aim.exe or ie.exe, whichever. Obviously AIM is AOL Instant Messenger, I was just giving a prime example of the error. But thanks. ;-)
