4x512 Modules or 2x1 Modules?

My system is running 1 Gig of Crucial Ballistix PC 3200 memory in a 2x512 module set-up (dual channel). I wanted to ad another 2x512 sticks to raise it to 2 Gigs.

However, I've been informed 4x512 memory modules are never as good as using 2x1 GB modules. And that if I really want 2GBs of RAM the recommendation is 2x1 GB in dual channel.

The thing is I can afford another Gig but definitly not two at this time. Will I take a significant hit with the 4x512 configuration? Is it better to leave it at 2x512? I hope I didn't mess up.

2 x 1 Gig has been proven faster than 4 x 512. I'm spacing on where I read the review that tested each set-up. It's not a huge difference but a difference nonethe less. I'm personally stuck on some middle ground that hasen't been tested and published yet. I'm running 1 x 1 Gig and 2 x 512. It just happened to work out that way with christmas gifts...haha
