It's been about 5 years, so I figured it was about time to update. I've done a little research but not sure about what would be the best for the money. I need a Motherboard, CPU, Ram, and Video Card. Here is a vague list of what I was thinking.

AMD x2 3800+
7900gt
Motherboard not sure, but a lot of slots and SLI
Ram not sure, something good for overclocking

Other stuff I might need to upgrade at some point, but won't be apart of the $1,000 budget.

Hard drive 7300rpm or something (not sure if that's slow or not)
Sound blaster audigy2 nx (external, connects through USB)
Cooling for overclocking, kind of want water cooling not sure about noise difference or affect it'd have.

Main concern I was having, was if I should go cheap on processor and upgrade later, or go cheap on video card and upgrade that later. I'm not sure if not having the 512mb ram would hinder my performance later on, in which case, would buying another 7900gt put me at par. I don't want to have to do any major upgrading for another 4 years or so. Thanks for your input.

what about psu & case , you wont need those? a new psu youll most likely need and if you got a micro atx case then youll need a new one too

you meant 7200rpm and thats fine theres nothing wrong with that , what about the buffer?

i have a lian li case w/ a 550 watt psu. As for buffer i don't know. How would i check?

That is a great dual core CPU. I'd go for at least a gig of OCZ Gold memory and 2 gigs if you afford it and will definitly overclock well.

Very good video card. Have you considered a SATA harddrive?

With today's games the video card is the main issue. Get a decent CPU and a strong video card.

Just go for an opteron, you can overclock them very far with good RAM and a good mobo, just like he listed, ill give you the links.
