Ge-Force FX 5500 128mb PCI problem...

A mate has bought this graphics card for a Dell Dimension 1100. When the card is installed by itself without the driver, it doesnt show the task bar along the bottom. It also says the screen resolution is 1024x768 when it looks like 800x600.

Then when you install the driver supplied with the graphics card and restart, it gets as far as the XP boot screen and after this is just shows a black screen. Any help appreciated! Thanks

Have also tried downloading the driver from the N-vidia site and still does the same thing :-/

try using an older forceware driver perhaps in the 6X.XX revisions. perhaps the drivers you downloaded are too new

Got it sorted, think he had a virus which was enables on startup in msconfig. disables everything and unistalled and reinstalled the driver and it seems to be working.
