AMD Dual Core 939

Thinking of buying one of these for a new system. What motherboard would you recommend and what speed of CPU, e.g a 4000 or 4200??

4000+ as dual core is non existent. i would not reccomend the 4200+. how large is your budget. as a rule i only reccomend the opteron 165, athlon x2 3800+ or athlon x2 4400+. i would reccomend an NF4 series DFI LanParty

Whats wrong with the Athlon X2 4200+? Nothing if that is what you can afford. IMHO. The only real difference being the size of the L2 Cache 512kb vs the 1mb of the 4400+. If you can get the 4400 sure get it, if not, 4200 is better than nothing. Personally I like the Asus A8N Sli deluxe, but the DFI's are nice.

actually the problem with the manchester 4200+ is that the price increase over the manchester 3800+ is not worth the 200mhz clock speed increase which even an overclocking noobie should be able to reach. i will never reccomend anything other than the lowest clocked of each of the dual core core variants.

Dont really have a budget, i can afford whatever is best. The 4400+ sounds good. Any links or info on the NF4 series DFI LanParty? And can any of you answer my question on another thread http://www.techist.com/showthread.php?threadid=100579

just search for it on newegg. which model you get depends on your taste but the Ultra-D would probably suit you for a motherboard

Ive also got 4gb of DDR2 to put in this machine!

not going to happen. DDR2 is not compatable with AMD computers. besides 4gb is excessive

I'm using the 4200+ and its awesome! Highly reccomended, and from the right places the prices are good for the speed!

not when compared to the value of the 3800+. mine hit 2.4ghz at stock vcore setting and 2.5ghz within reccomended vcore. honestly the extra money for the 4200+ is not worth it in my opinion if you are willing to overclock. the 4400+ however being toledo core would be worth paying more for over the 3800+ manchester
