I was reading through a lot of different posts and people have been complaining that the 7900 series of geforce cards are extrememely hot. I just recently bought a BGF 7900gtx and was wondering if the stock cooler is sufficient enough to cool it. If not, what suggestions do you have for a replacement vga fan?

Before you decide to buy a new heatsink/fan, what are your temps at idle and load. If they aren't too bad, then there is no reason to spend like $30-40 on a heatsink.

there hovering around 55 degrees celcius idle and about 63 to 65 degrees celcius at full load. Is that acceptable?

no....its best to keep it below 45 at idle, and not higher than 60 at full load, depending on the case you have, you just probably need better airflow....so get another exhaust fan or something.....i think that should help.

That is warmer than i would be comfortable with. Any artifacts or anything like that ingame?

I don't see anything wrong with those temps. I would only buy a new heatsink if you are experiencing artifacting at stock clock speeds.

Well temps that high will shorten the life og the chip significantly. May not to the point of getting artifacts but still not good for the chip.

My 6600GT runs at the same temps. I'm sure a manufacturer would NOT release a card with a lifetime warranty if they were unsure about the cooling system.

Don't be ignorant please, 60C is totally acceptable.

yea. 60c is way below dangerous. it can even handle all the way to 120c so its fine

GPU's run MUCH hotter than CPUs. They can handle much higher heat loads. My 7800GT gets to nearly 80C under load and its perfectly fine. If you want to reduce the life of your video card, then you would do a volt mod.
