Dell Ram Upgrade.........

Hey all,

I was thinking of upgrading the ram in my parents computer for them. It's my old Dell Dimension 4550. Anyway, right now it's got one stick of 512. It's ddr sdram, PC2700. I thought about giving them my old Corsair XMS ram, which is PC3200. So, will the comp just clock the memory down to a lvl it can handle or will it not work at all?

yeah it will be underclocked to pc3200 , but if both sticks dont have same timings it will cause instability however that can be fixed by finding the *optimal* timings for both to work well together also if the bios supports "optimal" in the timings then try it , and test with memtest86+ til youll get it right

Cool, thanks. I plan on taking the old ram out and just putting the gig of Corsair in.
