Why Partition a HD?

are there any free, basic partitioners? i was looking and partition magic is like $70.

Start --> Run --> diskmgmt.msc
Comes with XP, but it is very limited. Don't know of anything free with better functionality. Try searching www.download.com

no problem. I need to update it. I learn a few new tricks like running 5-8 seperate windows partitions at once with each one specializing at something. a office partition (with office. adobe etc.), a video editing partition, a sound editing partiton, a 64 bit partition, Media center partition, etc.

I tricked a guy computer like this once. his speed is amazing and his boot up time is even more amazing. I'm in the process of doing mine like this

im sorta confused, what do you do when u first put in a new hdd? I cant remember. Do you create a small like 8mb partition and then the rest for your pc. I remember something about being told to have a real small partition or something for something but i never knew what for just I did it.

10 -20 gig partiion for xp. the rest is for the "my documents" folder

eric, you seem to know a lot about partitioning. can i partition hds in a raid 0 configuration?
