yeah....loooooooooonnnnnnggggg time no see...if any of you guys remember me....well i could use some help...i've been out of the computer world since the summer....mmmm i know about the ati 512 mb card out!!! that's amazing! i finaly made it!!!! then i guess microsoft has a new os...vista? sooo is there anything else i'm missing?


okay so now to my other question....i had a friend come up to me and ask me if i could build him a a rig between 900$ and 1,000$
what do you guys think of what i put togeather...remember, my knowlege is only as good as summer 05.

we wanna oc the **** outa this computer soooo...you get the picture....i just really wasn't to sure on the motherboard, and will 1 gig of ram be good enough? cause i know times are changing....any help on any of this would be bad as ****...thanks guys.

i thought the powersupply was a bit too powrful, but since you're gonna overclock, you'll probably need it.

CPU: the trend nowadays is DEFINITELY GET DUAL-CORE. and since you're gonna be overclocking, you're best bet is the Opteron 165.. very close in price. (a tad cheaper). if you're gonna be stubborn and stick with the 4000+, then get the sand diego, not the clawhammer.. san diego is also cheaper!!

ram: seems so expensive.. i see the timings are really tight.. i guess if you know that these will overclock really well then i guess its worth it.. or else just get faster clocked ram..(but with that you get looser timing.. so ya.. w/e!)

video card: the x850xt is good, but the 7600gt is priced very close.. check otu some benchmarks and see if the 7600gt is better, most likely it is.

mobo: donno why you picked that one.. but if you're gonna overclock, have a look at the dfi line.. (sorry i donno which ones in specific)

yeah i was looking at the dfi lanparty, and i was going with the ati card because he's a hl player.....

mmm he really wants to go sli though...has it gotten any better then before?

and x2? dual core? i've never even heard of it....like i said...i've been living under a rock for the past 4 or 5 months.

ya thats 2 cores in 1 cpu! excellent for multitasking! even good for gaming because you can set a lot of the background junk to run on one cpu, and w/e game you're playing solely on the other core. the 3800+ is great value, but since you say you're gonna overclock, the opteron165 is clocked a bit slower, but has double the l2 cache. ppl have had good luck in overclocking it. stock is 1.8 ghz.. but i'm sure you will get AT LEAST 2.2ghz (thats 2 cores runnin at 2.2ghz)

yea definatly go with the DFI board if you want to overclock. as for video card... buy a 7800gt by eVGA.

you might as well get the 7900gt if you can find one since they're around the same price as the 7800gt.

Totally get the Opteron 165, it will OC wayyyy better than the AMD 4000. plus, it's dual core. Don't get that ATI card, get a 6800 gs for around that price, or pay a bit more for the 7600. PSU is too expensive, get an antec truepower 2 550 watt one

yeah i guess i'll change to the dfi....but what chipset should i get? i'm pretty sure we'll just sli it.....uuummmm...two 6800 gts should do the job.

and i chose that psu because my dad has in his computer...and well...simply put...it's amazing.
