I recently purchased a Maxtor Ultra Series 7200 - 200 Gig HD (at $60 after rebates, I couldn't resist). I have an older motherboard (DFI K6XV3+/66 4-12-00) and I'm sure it won't read anything over 137 Gig. I don't want to spend the $ for a PCI card; I expect to buy a new system soon. If I partition the drive into 2 100 Gig partitions, does that solve my problem? Does my computer read the HD as 2 different drives (say, C and D)? And if I keep my existing HD as C, will my motherboard read the new HD as D and E? If this is all correct, are there any drawbacks to doing this?

Already read post about 137 Gig barrier. That's what led me to my last post. These are questions I have that were not clearly answered to me. I guess simply, will my computer recognise the entire 200 Gig space if partitioned as 2 100 Gig drives. And will my computer assign them as C and D drives? Or will space be lost?
Are there other drawbacks?
