If Harddisk is Full...

a few questions...
would there be any problems if a harddisk is full/almost full? like physical problems to the hd?
is there a general rule to how much a hd can be filled? maybe some megabytes should be left for the system to operate efficiently?

never let your HD get to capacity. if it gets full, then the info will just keep jamming in there, until your HD will burst. all of your HD gunk will splatter all over the rest of your comp. your vid card will look like its been in battlefiled2 and your motherboard will smell like porn.

there is no physical problems that will result from this but windows will probably kill itself. i had an incident the other day when windows started boot looping because it ran out of hdd space during an install of SP2 (of course its microsofts fault too because SP2 incorrectly calculated the space required for install), windows crashed and restarted then started boot looping. basically for some retarded reason windows apparently tries to write a few mb of files to the C: partition during boot which caused it to fail and restart over and over.

in case of hd spcae runnin slow, it might be a good idea not to let windows manage your swap file size. determine the size your self( "solid swap file") by setting the min and max same, like 512Mb or maybe 1024, depending on your needs. this way ur puter won't run out of swap (and crash) even if ur hd becomes full.

anyway best thing is to del some files or get a new hd.

it would be ok if a slave would get full to capacity though right? i dont see why it would flip out if it didnt have an OS on it...

yeah its fine on a slave but an OS partition will screw you over like i described if it fills up

so i guess its safe to say that if 1 hd has 3 partitions (1 OS, 2 data) and the data partitions are full but the OS partiton is not, theres no problem?

yeah that should be fine, unless the pagefile is on one of the partitions filling up

it should be ok, but it will constantly be running 'Disk Cleanup' until it feels there is enough space to properly run. Once it gets beyond that, look out!

Search for "*.tmp" across the entire HDD.
Delete all of them.
