I seek wisdom about CPU cooling fans

Hi, a few weeks ago I constructed a new computer and I decided to use the fan that came with the AMD. I overclocked the processor and now my Idle temp is 45c and my load temp is about 57c. I know that I need a better cpu cooler and I was hopping for some advice.

The thermaltake blue orb looks pretty cool.

but I'm not sure that it will fit in my crowded case (see photo)

and on the other hand the Raidmax Glacier was reviewed to be very effective.

if zalman 9500 fits in ur case, its the best.
my OC x2 4800+ @2.8ghz only goes 45c max load.
o and dont forget to get AS5 thermal paste.

and u might wanna do some cable management, too.
just tie em all together as much as possible.

Looks like you have lots of room there. But you do need to organize and tidy up your cables, which will also improve cooling. The 9500 is great, but i believe this does the best job out there:

U can change the fan too, if you dont care about noise and get even better cooling, but im sure the stock setup would drop your temps by at least 10 degrees...


your temps aren't actually that bad...

thats good. that with a powerful 120mm fan would drop your temps substantially.

Socket 939 is like the most popular socket out there for gamers and overclockers....trust me, it fits....athlon 64 is 939....

well, whenever they are mentioned people always say they are LOUD LOUD LOUD. if you dont mind the noise... go for it. that is a HUGE amount of air it moves.

HOWEVER, once you have that much air moving over it, the CPU is never going to be any cooler than just ~5*C above room temperature.
