new MB and old HD

I'm sure this has already been answered...but i'm new to this forum and could not find the solution in search....please help...had to replace a bad Asus Mother Board A7V266E with a new A7N8XE...I want to be able to use the old Hard Drive as the primary HD...But, of course, the new board will not boot from it (the HD is good...XP PRO) I can put it on as a Slave, but then many of the programs won't launch...How can I get the new board to recognize the HD and boot from it??????????

sounds like it doesnt want to boot from the device...well dugghh..yes that is the problem..lol..anywho...What I would do is go into the BIOS and go to your starup options and make sure your hard drive is set to the first boot device that way we can make sure it is a BIOS issue...It usually would be HD0..see what that does...then we can reconfigure the BIOS as needed once we determine what the problem is.
