I have a amd athlon xp 2200+, 256ddr unit. After 10-15 minutes of use it restarts itself. But before it do so, I can hear a scratching sound like that of a busy hard disk. It's not the HDD nor the RAM because even though I disconnect this devices I still heard the scratching sound. What do you think may cause the problem? What are the possible causes? Please help me out..Thanks

I checked the cpu fan and the power supply. It seems it was not overheating. The rotation of each fan is constant and to its fastest speed. Not always, I can still sometimes hear the scratching sound. In fact, I already putted a electric fan beside it to keep it always cool. The only changes I observed is it doesn't restart already. Whenever I hear the scratching sound, I am trying to touched the heatsink of the cpu and power supply and it seems it is cool but the scratching sound is still there. What do you think is the problem..thanx!!

windows keeps bsod logs (and theres always one on a random restart even if you see it for a split of a second) goto c:\windows\minidump and rar/zip all the files and upload to http://www.upload2.net and provide the link and ill analyze the most recent and tell you if its a hardware/driver issue and what driver is causing it if its a driver issue , also download everest

take screenshots of computer-->sensor and motherboard-->cpu , alot of hard drives make a single click when being powered on/off its normal thats probably what you meant by "scratching sound" , check the mobo for bad capacitors (perferably with a flashlight) see examples

if youll find any then rma the mobo if you still got warranty otherwise just have em replaced at an electronic repair shop it wouldnt cost much
