CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (1.8GHz, Winchester core)
CPU Cooling: Stock heatsink and fan
Motherboard: MSI K8T Neo2-F (revison 1.0)
RAM: 2x512 (1GB) Corsair XMS PC3200 (DDR400)

Do you guys think THIS processor would be a good CPU for my box? I've thought for some time that my CPU was the "bottleneck" in my system for high-end gaming, and I liked this processor. Any thoughts?

try the 3200+.The Venice cores are alot better.

OR, spend another $35 dollars, pick up a Opteron 150 and OC it like 400Mhz and you'll have an effective replacement for an FX-57.

Or that is a great idea too.

I thought Opteron's were good for servers and such, how do they fair against "normal" desktop CPUs?

you must not know alot about OCing then. They are very awesome processor I myself dont own one but They overclock very well and are made with same cores as most of "the desktop" cpu's.

Yeah, If you get an Opteron 165 for around 330 bucks, you can most likely OC it to at least 2.5 ghz. Now that would be a kick*** CPU.

hehe I plan To OC my 170 (when AMD stops being a **** and take my dead one back and give me a new one) to 2.6 for fx-60 speeds with my ddr 500 ram and cnps9500 with some as5;)
