you should get LCD for these reasons
-CRT creates more heat
-CRT kills ur eyes
-CRT Takes up a lot of room
-LCD Doesnt do all that

The only reason that LCDs may be bad is because they have ghosting, but with the ones i recommended above, 2ms response time, there would be hardly ANY ghosting at all.

-CRT creates more heat

Since when has that been a problem?

I feel as though this 'argument' is going round in circles (not just in this thread, but in general) CRT's do not kill your eyes, have it above 60hz and it will stop them from acheing.

If you have the room, a CRT will be better than a LCD.

the reviews seem to say differently, and honestly, I'm not too worried about my eyes, I don't use these things at full contrast or brightness, my eyes do seem rather relaxed while looking at the display.

as much as i love my CRT i *do* have a good reason for getting LCD. widescreen. i checked it out on TomsHardware.com and this baby is the real deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824006084
widescreen actually allows you more sight then other gamers so that you can see the guy trying to sneak up on your side plus you can watch movies in widescreen and if tom says this baby is good, you better believe it.

oh and i would make one change get the 1000w PC&C psu its sposed to be quieter than 850 and have more wattage (will definately fit in a kandalf) and do get a new logitech mouse, a ms mouse doesnt even compare both the g5 and the mx518 are extremely nice mice (< rhymes) and youll be happy with either make sure to get a good pad with them also like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817114203
oh and when you finish building make sure to post and show us how sweet your rig is :) id love to see its 3dmarks

no. they cant. you may disagree with their results, but 99% of the time they use factual careful methods to discover pitfalls and greatnesses in components. they have even pioneered a method of measuring monitor brightness distribution (basically whether youll see the backlight shine thru or not)

Just.. WOW, thanks for pointing that LCD out, GageMW, it seems to be absolutely perfect, I'm definetely considering that heavily.

just keep in mind that in games that do support widescreen, you first have to turn the ratio to 16:9 or 16:10.
most all newer games do support it, but those that don't have hacks/cracks/patches to make it available. (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/)

and get that 1000w psu! :D

seeing as he has that much money he can get the pc now and only have to replace pcu, mobo, ram and water block in what 10-12 months time? and he'll have the use of a sweet pc the whole time plus all this cool stuff to go with new mobo later
