Competition keeps both sides upgrading all the time :) Makes for faster toys for us :) :) :)

You forgot to mention that comeptition also keeps prices low for us... (with the exception of newly released hardware...)

they will have very competitive processors by conroe's release.
What makes you say that? Conroe isn't even due out for until next quarter and it has already shown much potential in both price and performance, as well as overclockability

AMD doesn't have anything particularily interesting to bring to the table...chances are any new cores will simply be modified RevE dies with memory controller tweaks for DDR2 and possibly a faster HTT although that has thusfar proven useless and there is absolute no reason to doubt the bugs present within IMC modifications...Socket AM2 cores are nothing but rebranded K8 technology with a bad memory combination...even moreso the clock frequencies in the roadmap have not changed very much at all

I say that AMD will have competitive processors, simply because they will have to have competitive processors. AMD isn't going to stand still.
they also have been given plenty of warning from Intel about what's coming.
