Upgrade video card from 5700LE to 6600GT ot 6800XT?

Upgrade video card from 5700LE to 6600GT or 6800XT?

I currently have a 5700LE AGP, and thinking of upgrading to a 6600GT or 6800XT AGP. Are these cards much faster? And will they make a actual difference in performance for games or just a little improvement?

Currently running on:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 2000Mhz
Asus K8V-X
1 GB memory
Nvidia Geforce FX 5700LE 256MB AGP
300GB + 120GB
19" CRT 1024x768 is the usual res I run in for everthing

The 6600GT and 6800XT are pretty much on par with each other,The only good thing with the 6800XT is you might have a slight chance of unlocking the extra pipe's,But if i were you i would forget about those card's and see if you can swing for a 6800GS.

I take it from your setup the BFG is better then Gigabyte for that card?

BFG and GigaByte both make good cards. it is harder to seperate the market leaders from each other but it is easy to say which manufacturers are crap. so basically look at known good manufacturers and get the best value you can. i like Shumway would suggest a 6800gs

There's only 3 manufacturer's that i would buy from.

1. eVGA
2. xFx
3. BFG

There are still other good manufacturer's but those are pretty much the best maker's of vid card's.

MSI geforce cards are ok too.

I'd either go with a 6600 GT, or a 6800 with 12 pipelines (preferrably the GS)
they will both blow away the FX5700

the 6800 gs will kick the **** out of the FX5700 and the 6600 gt and 6800 XT will also be a lot better - charlie
