Which PSU?

A psu will only supply the power the components want from it, a PSU will not give 200w to the GPU when it only needs 100. A 600w PSU will only take out what the components in the PC needs (plus 25% or so.)

PSU power consumption

Trifid,

But, when you plug in a 600w PSU (on its own) is it not pulling power?

If what u say is correct (and I have no reason not to beleive u) then there should be no reason not to get the biggest >W PSU possible. With $ not an issue. Right?

Thanks, this will make decisions a bit easier.

Cheers

Sorry, I have been reading through my posts and they are confusing. A 300w PSU in a PC will take out the same amount of power that a 600w one would in the same system. The watts tell you the maximum the PSU can draw out to the components.

If anything the higher watt PSU will draw out less power as it is not so close to its peak output so will be more efficient, but that depends on the PSU.
