USB plugin freezes machine...

The front usb ports have stopped working – anything plugged into them will freeze the computer and it has to be reset/booted. Rear ports work fine. Motherboard is Aopen AK77. (AMD XP 2500) I have unplugged and re-plugged the front header and looked around for possible shorts etc. . Any suggestions how I might trouble shoot this?

is it a custom computer?

try reinstalling the drivers and check conections

Yes, custom. I'll try the drivers - I would have thought it a hardware issue since the back USB ports work OK.

Solved! Just for the record in case someone else has this....
Go to device manager, view, show hidden devices and uninstall all the usb devices. Reboot twice - XP will re-install devices. Working OK so far.
