I am looking to salvage my old computer for any useable parts for a computer i'm going to build (It's my first time, so I am using old crappy parts) and I was wondering if this piece is the procesor. and if so, how would I go about removing it?

EDIT: or is the processor the thing above it, the thing with the fan on it. In that case, what is the green thing?

yes.. the processor is the thing with the fan on it, just pull the heatsink and fan off, and bam there is your processor. you should be able to use your hard drives, and optical drives, but i don't think you can use anything... what kind of computer do you have by the way, that could help me out a bit

The computer in that picture is an old Compaq 5WV257.

Specs:

700Mhz AMD Duron processor
Nvidia Vanta 8MB video card
64MB RAM
CD burner drive
CD drive

Just basic stuff.

Oh, I also plan on putting the CD-R drive into my new computer.

what you are pointing to is the motherboard's northbridge. it is the bridge between processor and RAM.

but anyway, what you may be able to salvage that may be worth it:
CD drives, hard drive
sound card
case
PSU (but you probabbly shouldn't)
