I've heard that the X2's have problems playin some games. i'm lookin into gettin one but if they have the problems i've heard of i'm justin goin to get a 3700+ San Diego.

Some of the reviews on the 3800+ say like "Gamers beware" and stuff. reviews on the 4200+ said it had some problems with games too. I'm lookin to play Ridd1ck, Deus Ex, RA2, and probably some of the newer games as well. Is it true wut they say about the X2 with its problems?

(btw i'm gettin a Geforce 7600GT, is that a big step up from a 6600GT?)

That really shouldn't have any backing to it... I mean, the X2 3800+ is like 2 Athlon 3200+ processors. So even if only one core is used, it'll kick the poo out of any game that's on the market.

Its better than ANYTHING in the GeForce 6 series. It beats the 6800GT/GS/Ultra. Can't believe Nvidia was able to do this.

There is a known issue with all multicore processors with thermal throttling (eg cool and quiet) in which you'll get processor speed up and slow downs that will kill any performance. Most likely any site that has issues with X2s in games did not do their research and did not install the hotfix

This issue is easily resolved with a driver and a registry edit

ok so your saying the problems with the X2s are gone or they can easily be fixed? if so i'll go with the 3800+ X2

and.. will i see a difference in performance goin from a P4 2.8GHz to a X2 with the same amount of RAM but different video card (i kno video quality will increase goin from a 6600GT to a 7600GT). Will the X2 be better at mulitaskin since its a dual-core processor?

I Just built a x2 4400+ CPu 2gb G-Skill .Awesome performance. Its mostly used for internet and Watching Tv on Daul 19" screens.
God I love windows media center with Tv Changer Works awesome Highly recomended.

yea if i do build the AMD heres the parts i'd get:

ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 Socket 939:

AMD Athlon X2 3800+:

G.Skill 1GB DDR400 (already have)

eVGA Geforce 7600GT:

Tower, HD, DVD Drive, and PSU have (in my sig)

i was also looking at TomsHardware.com and saw one of their articles of a under $500 gaming machine and they picked out the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 mobo which i thought was niice since it had a PCI-E and AGP (i have an AGP 6600GT now so i could cut the price alittle on the build i want) but its a ULi chipset vs. the ABIT has a Nvidea chipset so i was wonderin whats the difference?

Thanks for the suggestion on the MSI board but i really like the features the Fatal1ty AN8 has and i think i'll stay with that. Will i see a performance increase goin from a P4 2.8GHz with HT to a X2 3800+ with HT or even an Athlon 3700+ with HT (the other CPU i was lookin at)?
