Do I need new speakers?

For some reason no matter how high I set the volume on my speakers they dont get loud at all. I dont think my ears are bad because my mom would tell me to turn down the music if it was loud. And I can hear my tv just fine so it must be the speakers. I cant watch movies because I will not get loud enough to hear the voices. Do I need to buy new speakers. Are they shot?
