Most of our PC here are running Windows XP and Office XP. I have noticed lately that a few have developed a problem in OUtlook. When receiving a mail message from an outside mail client (like Lotus Notes) it shows the mail to have an attachment (which it does not) and gives an OLE error. It says "An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not
correctly installed. Please rerun Setup."

I have not been able to fix it, or find much usefull info on the net. This doesnt really affect performance (yet) but it definitely an annoyance.

OLE is Object Layering and Embedding,,

something in the OUTLOOK is not allowing embedded images to be viewed properly,,,

without a history of your installs,, this is only a starting point,

cheers

This is occuring on IBM equipment (T30 laptop and Netvista M42 DT). They are Windows XP SP1 and Office XP SP2. All current "updates" from MS have been applied as well. Reinstall of Office does not fix the problem. What else do you need to know?

This is one I found :

SYMPTOMS
If you start Outlook 2000, you may receive the following error message:

An OLE registration error occurred.
The program is not correctly installed.
Run Setup again for the program.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if one of the following is true:
You install Microsoft Internet Explorer with a Browser Only or Custom installation that does not install Microsoft Outlook Express and then you install Outlook 2000 without updating the browser. This is an issue because the Outlook Express support files that are required by Outlook 2000 are not installed.

-or-

The installation of Outlook Express has been corrupted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, remove and reinstall Outlook Express.

If the behavior still occurs after you remove and reinstall Outlook Express, you can manually uninstall and reinstall Outlook Express.

*remember that the Registry needs to be cleansed thoroughly of any Outlook folders

* remember that ADMIN rights have to be present

Your problem may initially lie with NOT installing Outlook EXPRESS with the Browser install,, the OUTLOOK shares some of the files from Outlook EXPRESS,, no express equals errors

CAUSE
Outlook 2000 requires certain files shared with Outlook Express in order to function properly.

This situation can be caused by installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x with a Browser Only or Custom installation that does not install Outlook Express. If Microsoft Outlook 2000 is then installed, and you choose not to update the browser, the Outlook Express support files required by Outlook are not installed.
RESOLUTION
Follow the instructions on the first error message and install Outlook Express.
How to Reinstall Outlook Express on Microsoft Windows 95
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, and then click Add/Remove.
Click Add a component to Internet Explorer, and then click OK. Click Yes.
Under Communication Components, click Outlook Express, click Next, and then click Install Now.

This behavior is by design. The Internet Mail Only installation requires the installation of Microsoft Outlook Express. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
