CPU/Motherboard ?

What happens if one installs a faster CPU than a motherboard is approved to support ? I did a search but could not find the answer.

I have a couple of old 1.2 Ghz socket 370 Celeron's,(I know,old stuff) and boards are hard to find that support 1.2. What would you do...throw 'em away ?

I would just buy the board and hope it works. It's not like they're terribly expensive.
