I'm looking for instructions on how to create a bootable OS image on a CD so I can boot a laptop without a hard drive and just run the OS/Programs from the CD/RAM. Any help is appreciated.
OS needs to be Windows, preferrably 2000 or XP.

The only way i know of to use a Live CD like you described would be either BartPE or to use Knippox. Knippox is a Linux Live CD.

Other than that i dont think that it is all that possible. The Live CD option is mainly for troubleshooting and repairing. Not as a main OS. Reason being is that you cant edit the Registry and you wont have the drivers needed to run all of your hardware.

personally i like the kanotix live linux cd better , it have much better ntfs support+hardware support

I use to use linux live cds. I just messing with bart pe. it nice, but it more for fixing thing than running an os
