Iam in a Biiiig Trouble

i have a compaq p4 1.5 ghz speed computer, thats model is evo
my problem is my sourcard on board its working i can hear the sound but
the microphone is not fuctioning, i changed mnay phones but no result,
i also turned to windows xp1, xp2, and windows 98 same problems showing,
i dont know what is happing is there, my sound on board sound card driver is
intels 82801 Ba/Bam ac 97 audio,
kindly request u to help to fix the trouble

I am going to say the microphone jack is shot on the card. just buy a cheap second sound card and use that for the microphone.

check in volume control if its not muted also that its all the way up , if its alredy so then it might be a driver issue try a newer driver or an older if your alredy using the latest also get the latest chipset driver , if its not the mute/volume/drivers then as alredy said the mic jack is dead

i have used many PCI sound cards also,but the result is same, can hear sound but the microphone is not functioning, that acts like this both windows98, xp sp 1, sp 2, i tried in all way, but i could not conclued what the problem is ?, i use both newer and old drivers for the on board sound

also the mics you used are regular or intended for computer use?
