Griffin Tech used to make a product called the ProSpeaker that would allow you to connect a set of hi-fi speakers directly to the computer, I attached a picture of what it looks like.

Does anyone know of a similar product that I could use to connect a nice pair of bookshelf speakers to my desktop?
I would rather not have to go through my receiver to do this, would prefer a direct connection.

It looks like pretty nice product, but are the speakers powered?
If not they will be very quiet.

Nope, are there any sound cards out there that provide powered line outs? I know the Digital Audio G4 and the flat panel iMac had powered ports, anything to give this to the PC?

A receiver would work, but I'm at college and have limited space :( .
I actually dont have my receiver out here and I would rather not bring it out here, limited space as stated above and I drive a Wrangler, and it has limited space as well.
So I would prefer to get a solution to allow me to connect a pair of bookshelfs directly to my PC.

why not a cheap pair of stereo speakers. if you are pushed for space, thats probably best.
