Opteron 165 vs 170

I would get the 165. Mainly because most of the results I see they both OC to basically the same speeds. Also you save $100 and getting a $300 dual core cpu up to 2.7 ghz. You can't beat that.

Being a royal cheapskate, I'd get the 165. Fast is fast, is fast, is fast. I mean, you're running a high end chip either way. Who needs an extra 200mhz per core? They're already buff.

i was faced with this decision and ive gotten a 165. Ive actually seen averages for overclocking on various steppings of 165 and 170 etc. and the 165 is doing AS good as the 170! In the manufacturing process its the same silicons and i THINK that they just clock it a bit higher, although the selection of silicone used may be of Slightly better quality. My stepping i got very recently is doing at least 2.6.
and for dual core, thats a win win situation. 165 is best bank for the buck. And with better cooling you can hit 2.8 no problem.
