So I'm buying up components for my new Shuttle gaming rig, and am trying to keep the original costs down and will buy up quality stuff this summer when money is in greater supply.
So, one method I could do is to keep my Western Digital WD1200JB hard drive that is pretty sweet as far as IDE drives are concerned, and just buy an IDE to SATA adapter so I can use it for a couple months with the new system.
An example of the adapter is eBay item 8769281308.

What do you guys think?
Is it worth it or should I just go for a straight SATA drive from teh get go?

Well thats enough to scare me away from them.
Screw it, I'll go with SATA native unless someone else has something positive to say about them.

nope, i've seen some that allow putting an SATA little adapter thingy with a couple circuits onto the back of an IDE drive, and it adapts it.
but apparently they're not as reliable as a native drive so screw that idea.
