From what ive heard 7900GT/GTX will be coming out pretty soon. Anyone know if there will be a price drop in the 7800 series, and more importantly will they stop making them. If yes, any idea when?
Thanks!

Edit: sorry about the sig, just realized its WAY to bit. Ill change it now

The 7800 series will drop in price accordingly... I would guess that the 7800GTX would have to be about 275, because the 7900GT is supposed to be 300-350. The 7800GT would probably be 225ish...

Retailers have put in their last orders for the 7800GT's. They're going to quit making them pretty quick because the 7900's are cheaper to make and perform better.

Think of the 7900GT as you are getting a 7800GTX 512MB (currently $700) for the price of a 7800GT. Not counting new games will need the power tha the 7900 series provides for max settings.

Actually the 7900GT is going to replace the 7800GTX 256MB because it has 24 pipes and clocked at 450mhz core. The 7900GTX has 24 pipes and is clocked at 650mhz, it's about 8-10% faster then the 7800GTX 512MB. Looks like the X1900 XTX still hold the performance crown.

Looks like ATI won this battle against nVidia

ATI won the "raw-power" battle. Not the drivers battle.

True. But my friend has a X1800XT and the drivers serves everything he uses them for with no problems which is mostly gaming.

Unless the drivers are horrendously bad I'll take raw-power over better drivers, not to mention it has FX10 blending, FX10 and FP 16 multi-sampling antialiasing in and nVidia does not. But SLI is more efficient then Xfire but I don't plan on going down those roads (even though I got a SLI mobo and might be getting the X1900XT )

I still stand by the fact that the X1900XT holds it's own or is faster, escpecially in FEAR, against the 7800GTX 512MB. I'm sure more and more games will start using a lot more shaders like FEAR, good move by ATI.

The 7900GTX will most likely out perform the X1900XT in Doom 3, Quake 4, and ET: Quake wars because they are nVidia biased. Either way, X1900XTX or 7900GTX you getting some serious firepower.

A friend of mine who lurks in the forums found an article. The 7900 series will come in 2 flavors... 512mb and 1gb...
