First post on board.....

Have at me I say! Kings and Knaves, stir my pride! (Is it good or bad?)

This is an offspring of a Tech TV episode of The Screen Savers I watched a while ago. It was a "Build a 500$ gaming rig" part, that was focused on creating a low price system and having great results (such as very decent FPS on UT2003, which was their base game)

I made my own modifications, and I am no computer expert, but I have been delving into them more lately. Can anyone with a nice knowledge base tell me if this is a good deal? Every part is purchaseable on New-Egg. I wanted to use Price Watch like suggested, but I found it too iritating going around to 10 different sites when I had one great one at my disposal.

These are the specs, and you won't believe the price. This is No E-Machines my dear friends. (Also, I believe everything is in coordinance with eachother. I am quite sure the RAM (266-2100) is supported on the motherboard.) Anyway -

EDIT!! - Earlier case didn't have power-supply,

SECOND EDIT! Uhhh. that case didn't have one either .....

I have an extra 512 of 2100 lying around, that is why I opted for 2100 instead of 2700.

And the grand total is -
*Drumroll*

367$ - I repeat, Three Hundred and Sixty Seven dollars.

(This does not include shipping, though from past experience, it shouldn't be terribly much. Regardless, it is under the 500$ mark that was set forth. Knowing my luck, something is wrong with this configuration, so can someone please tell me what it is? Any tips or suggestions would help, including parts recommended for exchange in place of these....)

Thanks!

(Edit - These parts were also suggested as the best overclocking parts - so I believe I can get a good 800-1100$ rig outa this after some hardcore tweakage)

Yep Yep, but thats 83$ I could spend on something else. Can anyone find anything wrong with my configuration, or does anyone have any tips? Some items are out of stock, so I'm not buying immediately.... Thanks

- Plus mine is a 2600 :)

Oh, and by the way, your ram is PC-2100 which runs at 266MHZ while your processor has a FSB of 333MHZ, you should go with PC2700 as a minimum, probably 3200 would be your best bet, because then you can OC.

I have my processor running at 2.09GHZ and it's default is like 1.67 or something. I turned the FSB up to 333MHZ instead of the default 266Mhz. If your ram speed is lower than the FSB of your processor you will be forced to run at a lower speed.

ID swap the 9600pro for a 9600XT or 9800 pro.I looked thur newegg i didnt see a 9600pro for 52.Saw one for a 132 though. you sure that isnt just a 9600.

Do you have AIM? I can help you configure something on that. My motherboard is one step up from the NF7-V2 or whatever the hell it is you're getting. And it's only like 5-10 dollars more. It has firewire and optical in AND out.

no way a 9600 PRO is in stock for that price, nope don't think so buddy. your codegen power supply is bad, i would switch to enlight 420 instead. your memory is now decent, that pc2100 would kill your system. i would spend a few bucks more for the 120GB seagate.
